In a significant policy shift, the Biden administration has authorized Ukraine to use U.S.-supplied missiles to target military sites within Russia. This decision marks a major departure from previous restrictions and blatantly ignores the mandate of the American people, who voted for President-elect Donald Trump in part to end foreign wars.

The alleged reason? The Biden administration cites growing concerns over North Korea’s involvement in the conflict. Reports indicate that North Korea has bolstered Russian forces by deploying thousands of troops and providing munitions. The involvement of North Korean troops, estimated at 12,000 by U.S., South Korean, and Ukrainian intelligence, highlights increasing cooperation between Russia and North Korea.

President Biden’s policy change comes at a critical juncture, with President-elect Donald Trump set to take office soon. Trump has expressed intentions to end the war swiftly, casting doubt on continued U.S. support for Ukraine. The Biden administration’s move is seen as an attempt to complicate any potential peace negotiations Trump might pursue.

The initial focus for these missile capabilities could be the Kursk region of Russia, where Ukrainian forces face North Korean and Russian troops. Despite this authorization, limitations will supposedly remain on the extent of Ukraine’s strike capabilities.
