(The TED Talk teacher’s words are bold)
“I try to talk to them about what is colonialism, how do we interact with it, how do we engage with it, and how do we combat it.”
This video, about 45 seconds long, has been making the rounds. It's from a recent TED Talk. This is a teacher, and no joke about this, it's unclear to me whether this is a dude or a chick or a little bit of both—who knows—explaining a bit of something about colonial violence and really directing it at the people in the crowd. Enjoy.
“I think that focusing still on the people who are uncomfortable about this is still creating colonial violence. It's still recreating cis supremacy, it's still recreating able supremacy, it's still recreating white supremacy. So instead, I'm going to do what I usually do when I talk to my classes: I try to weaponize everybody in there. I try to talk to them about what is colonialism, how do we interact with it, how do we engage with it, and how do we combat it within ourselves, within our families, within our communities, and how do we take that further. What is colonial violence? It's something that is really easy to frame in the past. It's something that's really easy to frame as something that we don't participate in, but really, colonial violence is sitting in these seats right now and being comfortable. Colonial violence is the control of the elements that we have and being warm in this room.”
The reason I wanted to show you this clip is because we're going to connect it to some other stuff. But this general notion that people show up to a TED Talk—in the day, back in the day—you would show up to a TED Talk and you would learn about something. You might learn about what the frontier of AI is, how that's about to change us, or you might learn about new ways that people can get off drugs or new therapies or all sorts of stuff, new ways of thinking about building civilizations and cities and all this stuff. And now they're doing TED Talks with people from completely nonsensical verticals in education. Like this is just all nonsense: cis supremacy, white supremacy, ableist supremacy. And then they go there and I think they usually pay to go to a TED Talk to have someone—it's a guy or a girl, it doesn't matter—tell them that they're basically white supremacists because they're sitting there comfortably in their chairs.
And that there's a disease—I mean this is why wokeness is a mind virus—that people do that and then they're being told they're white supremacists and they're ableist supremacists and they applaud it. And I think that that disease is deeply connected to a bunch of people, deeply connected to a society that kind of doesn't know what it believes anymore. So if a society doesn't know what it believes and what it stands for, then it will basically fall for everything. And unfortunately in Western societies, we've become so wealthy, we've become so modernized in so many ways that now we are quite literally committing harakiri on ourselves. We're impaling ourselves on these bad ideas.
What a tragic world view she has. Colonial violence? What century is it again? Cis supremacy? Considering that's over 99% of the population, then, yeah. When everybody is the enemy, the end result of a communist mindset is that everybody will be poor and miserable - for equality of course.
