Violence erupted in Amsterdam following the Europa League match between Maccabi Tel Aviv and Ajax Amsterdam when Israeli soccer fans were targeted in violent attacks across Amsterdam.
Assailants, reportedly chanting “Free Palestine,” ambushed fans at multiple locations, leading to at least 10 Israelis being injured, with at least 5 hospitalized. Amsterdam’s local police detained 62 individuals in connection with the attacks, which followed a protest ban.
One social media video purportedly shows pro-Palestine agitators aiming for and hitting a Jew with their car.
Israelis were also attacked with knives, beaten, and had their teeth knocked out. Passports were stolen. Jews in Amsterdam were given special permission to fly on Shabbat to obtain passage to Israel, even without passports.
Final note: It should go without saying that no matter how you feel about the Israeli government’s response to the Hamas terror attacks of 2023, attacking Jewish individuals after a soccer game is wrong and simply worsens the situation.
