There would be no need to end NAFTA, although I suppose threatening to end NAFTA might be one of America's responses to Canada leaving NATO.
That said, it would be good for Canada to beef up it's trading relationships with the rest of the world though, as a precaution against an economic meltdown South of the border. Better not to have all our eggs in one basket.
Canada and the US both have what it takes to be truly independent - including from each other. Of course it would radically change things but both have adequate energy and agricultural land and access to the oceans. Certainly it would degrade the middle class standard of living but doable. If things keep going the way they are maybe that's the only answer. As is the US is killing itself, probably Canada is Also.
Mariners will tell you it is dangerous to be too close to a sinking ship, as it will pull you down with it. Given how rapidly the US is bankrupting itself, and given it's propensity for endless foreign wars, putting a certain distance between ourselves and the US would seem a sensible precaution.
The US is doing a great job of creating more and more enemies for itself. If we tie ourselves too closely to the US, those countries will consider Canada their enemy too.
End NAFTA?
