Pride: From Fab to Flab

Perennially out-of-shape BDSM exhibitionists have co-opted queer

Trans is in the news again, with swimmer Lia Thomas being stripped of his unfair records in women’s swimming, thanks to a Trump mandate protecting women in sports. But Thomas is at least athletic, which is apparently a growing rarity in a far-left movement that perceives judgments about weight a form of “shaming” or “colonial oppression.”

The end result of these toxic cultish narratives is that Pride parades, which used to be filled with hot gay men…and perhaps more stereotypically, less than hot but at least fairly buff lesbian women…have been apparently overtaken by a strange combination of flabby BDSM exhibitionists and sad sacks who wear fat as a badge.

In a clip passed around X, you’ll see one of the saddest NYC Pride Parades ever. Here’s a screenshot:

Now compare that to the photo of the chiseled men above, taken from the following video of a 1995 Pride Parade in San Francisco:

I’ll note that the above video does have one overweight white woman with a bullwhip, but at least she’s smiling and having fun, and the rest of the parade is far more in shape…and it even has choreographed dancing!

Granted, the New York parade probably had more people than just the sad group in the clip above, but still…the clear and obvious degeneration of health in the past 30 years and the prevalence of obesity in 2025 is striking.

Being an ole “fag hag” myself, I have been to a number of West Hollywood Halloween Parades. Here’s one in 2004. What is missing? Flab:

Now. I will note that…in spending many years in the club scene, it seemed that the people who were most likely to want to show off their naked bodies were not the buff, but the blubbery. Specifically, there has always been a BDSM movement, filled with gothic white people, some of whom like to show off skin and spank people publicly with horse whips.

These people have been, by and large, the last people who should be going naked, because many of these folks apparently don’t like to exercise except for the effort it takes to have sex.

That particular BDSM crowd was more straight than not, however. Not gay or “queer.”

What I am gathering from the NYC Pride video is that many of these actually straight people (and their children, literal or figurative or both) have taken on the mantle of “queer” and completely displaced true gays and lesbians from Pride.

Pride used to be a cool thing when it was somewhat fringe, underground, and filled with fabulous, fun gay people. The dreary Pride of today - militant, angry, and far less fashionable - is nothing more than a bunch of sad sacks cosplaying at queer.

Bring back the fabulous, well-dressed gay men, please!
